PRESS RELEASE

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER SERVICE TO BE HELD THURSDAY, MAY 3, 2018 AT MT. CALVARY LUTHERAN CHURCH, LCMS

The 67th annual National Day of Prayer Service will be held Thursday, May 3, 2018, 6:30 p.m., at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Wamego.  All are invited and encouraged to attend the service led by Reverend Jim Price.  Mt Calvary Lutheran Church, 17535 Say Road, is located ½ mile north of the intersection of Highways 99 and 24.

In 1952, a law initiated by Kansas Senator Frank Carlson set aside an appropriate day each year, other than Sunday, as a National Day of Prayer.  Since 1952, every president has signed a National Day of Prayer proclamation. In 1988, President Ronald Reagan signed into law, Public Law 105-225, designating the first Thursday in May as the annual observance for the National Day of Prayer.

The theme this year is Pray for America - UNITY, based upon Ephesians 4:3 which challenges us to mobilize unified public prayer for America, "Making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace."

"There is no great movement of God that has ever occurred that does not begin with the extraordinary prayer of God's people," said Dr. Ronnie Floyd, President of the National Day of Prayer Task Force.

Pray for America
